Mission

Overview

The Electronic Music Unit's main directive is to provide a communal, collaborative and conceptual hub for the creative, technical and theoretical research in the domain of music technology. Research will encompass the understanding, investigation and use of technology in the preparation, practice and production of music and sonic art. These investigations are undertaken as part of programs, courses and residencies offered at EMU as part of the Elder Convervatorium of Music, University of Adelaide. Programs and courses include certificate, diploma, bachelor degree, honours, masters and PHD. Areas covered include:

  • Electronic, electro-acoustic and computer music.
  • Sonic arts, sound installations and interactive spaces.
  • Sound engineering, mixing, production and post-production.
  • Sound design in the areas of film, games, mobile devices and associated media.
  • New musical instruments, interfaces and gestural control.
  • Application and plugin software design and programming.
  • Cultural, historical and theoretical examinations of music technology and sound art.
  • Interdisciplinary associations with engineering, computer science, psychology, architecture, law, humanities and the social sciences.
